It was always a dream of mine that I could someday make it out to the country and have a little farm of my own. Now after 12+ years of marriage, 4 kids and 3 homes later I made it! We
This home was perfect in every way and even has things we didn't know were here. Thing like exposed beams- the house is almost 200 years old so the beam are hand hewn, and rustic and tell a story. We found out that it has the worlds steepest stairs that the former owner promised us we "would get used to" and surprisingly enough we have! It has original hardwoods in here, that are beautiful, and cold as heck in the winter months. Some of the surprises it came with was a temperamental well, it sometimes gives us tons of water, other times seems to tease us with a trickle. It also came with so many drafts that I think the Swiss made it, you know like Swiss cheese. I came with a pump that decided that it only like the former owners and crapped out on us, mid stomach bug. I can say you never know how much you need running water until you don't have it. It also has coyotes that howl louder than the tv at night, and have a taste for city cats. Another story for another time. Besides chickens coyotes, it comes with mice. The kind that my cats don't seem to be able to catch, the kind I have to catch in a vase and then boot out the door. Those cats know their pink slips are looming if they don't pick up their game, so yesterday one of them brought L a mouse, in 2 pieces. Monkey cat was so proud of herself, L on the other hand was not so impressed with the gift. We also found out that during subzero temperatures, we have walls that frost over- cool huh?
Slowly we are learning the ins and outs of this home, getting the hang of the quirks, and despite any surprise I love it here. So my goal is to be able to blog about the house, my family, our gardens, chickens and (fingers crossed) goats. I want to share recipes I find and like, or create. I want to share crafts, and homemade stuff like cleaners and see if they can stand up to a family of 6, a large smelly dog, and 2 worthless cats. I also want to share the highs and lows of life in "hillbilly hell" as L puts it. Can you tell she is not so thrilled with life here..... yet. I will convert her, or die trying.
